It all started when I was working in a factory
Back in 2005 I was already an educated engineer. I thought that Cinema will always be just a hobby of mine. I had just begun working in a factory and everything was great. But I kept asking myself the same questions: Is this job really for me? Can someday writing and directing be my work?
I made a leap of faith and enrolled for the entry exams to Polish National Film School. It was very intimidating because I had already read about this school in biographies of my favorite directors. Back then, I had no real artistic experience - just a few short films that I made with my friends in the small town where I grew up. Heck, I didn’t even know anyone who was a professional artist. You can imagine how surprised I was when they accepted me! I quit my job and moved to Łódź to study directing.
From dreamer to a specialist
Now when I look back to the time I was beginning my journey, I think it’s crazy that one of my films was premiered and awarded at Locarno International Film Festival; that I got to watch my films on polish television with my family. I’m still amazed that I managed to debut with my first feature film, and I’m currently preparing to shoot the second one. It’s still crazy for me that I also debuted in one of the most prestigious theaters here in Poland. And on top of that, I work as a script consultant and help other authors refine their screenplays.
Cinema Explained
Sometimes I still can’t believe that cinema has taken over my life and is no longer just a hobby. Am I special? Nope. I’m just a guy with passion and the right tools.
I created Cinema Explained to give you just that. I’m converting my 18 years of gaining knowledge and practical experience to serve others: Total beginners, or Pro’s who want to systematize their knowledge and listen to some tips & tricks from another colleague. My engineering background helps me with optimizing my courses, to give you the right information without overloading you with stuff that’s not important, so you can accelerate your own growth as a filmmaker.
The world has changed since the beginning of my journey. These days with access to video equipment, it costs almost nothing to shoot a movie. I've seen films made with cellphones screened in front of festival audiences. There’s never been a better time to start making movies.
If you’re looking for the truth about how to write impactful screenplays and direct movies that your audience just can’t forget, then you’re going to love my way of thinking and teaching.
